The Vishweshwaraya Museum - A Museum of Science
Recently, I had been to the Vishweshwaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM), Bangalore. Four stories of a wealth of knowledge - this is a wonderful place for kids and grown-ups alike. Especially for children, the Mechanical and Electronics sections are a great learning experience, where they can see the concepts they learnt in school in action. You can see a wide range of mechanical devices right from an array of screws, levers, pulleys to models of engines, wind-mills and water turbines. The Gravity well, demonstrations of magnetism, Magnetic Field due to electric current, electro-magnetic induction, transformers, etc. through nice models are fun to watch. There is a Fun with Science Section too, that I missed seeing. Wish I had seen them when I was a kid !!
In addition there is a section maintained by Bharat Electronics Limited, which showcases some of the latest work in at BEL in wireless communication, night vision, thermal imaging, virtual reality, etc. I particulary liked the Integrated Chip fabrication process demonstration. For space science buffs, there is the ISRO section, which is a nostalgic trip down the journey of ISRO from its humble beginnings to the present day. Lots of models of ISRO satellites and a wonderful picture gallery. If you seen images of scientists at ISRO plying material on cycles, there's a better one here - bullock carts being used for ferrying material !!!. Surely, ISRO has come a long way. Finally, there is a wonderful section on biology and biotechnology, for those interested in that area.
Surely, the Vishweshwaraya Museum is something not to missed if you are in Bangalore. And Bangaloreans could spend many a weekend there :)
